Ashu Satvika Goyal

My name is Ashu Satvika Goyal. I am sixteen years old. I was born on the 1st of June 1989 in Dehra Dun, India in a family of educationalists and eminent social workers.
I had spent many happy moments in the lap of nurturing by travelling far and wide with my maternal grand-mother, Sadhana Ulfat who was the co-founder of Nanhi Dunya (The International Movement of Children and their Friends).
The experience so gained has been the fountainhead and inspiration of my present day activities and my life. I have been immensely interested in the world of art and culture from my very childhood. I give credit to Nanhi Dunya for all this and state that the great and creative opportunities that I have in the field of art, music, preservation environment, social work, and theatre, etc along with formal schooling in Nanhi Dunya have enhanced my creativity and self-confidence. This is because the system of education adopted in Nanhi Dunya has a practical approach to life and believes in all round development.

My grandparents Prof. Lekhraj Ulfat and H. Sadhana Ulfat founded Nanhi Dunya,(The International Movement for Children and their Friends) in 1946. Nanhi Dunya is a registered society working in the field of education, child and women welfare, education for the otherly-abled and children in need of special care and it also cares for children from economically deprived backgrounds. Nanhi Dunya aims to find new dimensions in the field of education and holistic living.

My mother, Smt. Kiran Ulfat Goyal is presently working as Chief Promoter and Executive of the Movement.
In this movement there are 134 dedicated teachers, co-workers, volunteers and 2500 children including 150 otherly abled children attending 14 different Centre in and around Doon Valley in the lap of mighty Himalayas. These centres are situated in the inner city as well as in slums and rural areas. I am always helping my parents in their important mission. Therefore I can say that I have been working for society since birth.

For the last 60 years Nanhi Dunya has been conducting cultural, educational activities, & festivals through out the year with the aim of creating social harmony in the society. Such festivals have the basic objectives of preservation and conservation of Nature, ecological balance and deployment of appropriate technology, peace and exchange of different cultural and social values of the different parts of the world.

I have also been bestowed with a national award in painting .I am an accomplished dancer of classical North Indian dancing named Kathak and classical East Indian dance named Manipuri. I have given my performance in England, Germany, Sweden, Holland, France, India and South Africa.
My mother is a renowned musician besides being an educationist and social worker of renown. My maternal uncle, Alok Ulfat is the founder of Avikal, an institution for initiative of life and learning. He is a well-known theatre personality. He has taught me to independently direct and act in plays through improvisation. I have also been a TV artist.

I have attended Children Earth Summit 2002 at Johannesburg, South Africa. At that time I was thirteen years old. I feel that I have achieved much. I am inclined to play a very important role in protection of the environment.

At Children’s Earth summit (CES) at Johannesburg issues regarding education poverty health and basic rights and the problems of pollution explosion were mainly discussed at the Summit. The CES was held at the township of Witgoe-spirit near Johannesburg and in all 110 children from all over the world participated. It was really a golden opportunity for me. The CES provided a platform to all the children from across the globe to discuss the various issues, which are of great concern to the future of mankind, and to Earth itself. The Environment and its protection and sustainable development were the major issues that were discussed. It was emphasized that the subject of environment and ecology must be included in the curriculum of the educational institutions.

At the meet, the children finalized a declaration that laid great stress on the following five issues: Education, Health, Population, Pollution and Basic Rights (firstly it was human rights, then we changed it into basic rights because rights have to be given to everyone). The declaration was submitted to the different heads of states and to Mr.Kofi Annan, the Secretary General of the United Nations.

“I met many people who worked for environment but didn’t believe in fifth element Space and ate lot of meat. It was surprising that I was the only one who was fighting for SPACE (Ether) and against non-vegetarian food. How is it possible that you are eating non-vegetarian food day and night but, you are talking about saving animals when you kill them every second? I never say that you all start becoming vegetarian but at least try if you work for your environment. ”
So my dear friends, I am really interested in coming to this conference to share my ideas, experiences and views. Lets join together and make this world beautiful and peaceful
